2nd Annual Rogers County

Lyle Shingleton Land and Rangeland Judging Competition

The phrase rain or shine is usually a loosely used phrase, but in the case of the 2nd Annual Rogers County Lyle Shingleton Land and Rangeland Judging Competition the phrase was an honest statement.  It did rain and the competition was still held on Monday the 20th of March in Oologah on the property of Public Services of Oklahoma Northeast Station (PSO).  The events held at the competition are for Future Farmers of America (FFA) and for 4-H members alike and test the student’s knowledge of Land Judging, Homesite Evaluation, Range and Pasture Judging, and Engineering.  Rogers, Mayes, and Craig County schools and teams where invited, with several schools braving the weather to show just what they have been studying.  Adair High School FFA, Sequoyah High School, and Oologah High School brought a total of 31 student s to the competition and every school took home an award to hang on their wall.   Overall the competition was a complete and total success and a completely different experience than last year’s competition.  Of course the competition wouldn’t have been such a success without the co-operation of many different organizations and individuals.   At this time I would like to thank everyone that took part of this year’s event:  Public Services of Oklahoma Northeast Station (PSO), Natural Resource Conservation Services (Cord, Clay, Heath, Buddy, Julie, Steve C. and Steve A.), and of course the entire staff of Rogers County Conservation District Reserve.
