ROGERS COUNTY CONSERVATION DISTRICT
STRIVING TO CONSERVE NATURAL RESOURCES THROUGH EDUCATION AND PRACTICES |
THE ROGERS COUNTY CONSERVATION DISTRICT GOES BATTY ????? While August will tend to make many educators begin to go “batty”. We at Rogers County Conservation District take “batty” to a whole new level. Once again the first part of August found us in northwest Oklahoma assisting the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation with their “Nature @ Night” program at the Selman Bat Cave. The Selman Bat Cave is a maturity cave for Mexican Free Tailed Bats. This year we estimated approximately 2 million bats emerging right before our eyes. While the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation offers bat watch programs in June and July, the “Nature @ Night” program is something special. Not only do the participants get general information on bats, gypsum, alabaster caves and Northwest Oklahoma, we spend a few hours after dark exploring the nature at night. Not only do participants get to know what goes bump in the night in northwestern Oklahoma and how to enjoy it. But they also get a few pointers on how to experience wildlife back at home after dark. We at Rogers County Conservation District are always excited about helping the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation with “Nature @ Night” as well as other top notch educational programs led by their Biologist, Mrs. Hickman. If you would like to experience approximately 2 million bats flying just overhead, or the “Nature @ Night” program visit www.wildlifedepartment.com/selman.htm to get more information. |
